Thinking Point:
Forgiveness mentality brings personal healing and gives room to God to speak on one's behalf.
Forgiveness is a powerful tool for personal healing and growth. It's a mentality of letting go of one's hurt and betrayal. It's an approach or mindset that sees things beyond the attitude of man, that allow God to bring healing to the wounded heart. Mind you, forgiveness isn't forgetfulness, when you forgive you let go of the pain, no more hurt but you can still remember and be careful of the attitude of men. Forgiveness doesn't mean carelessness, but knowing the level and height you can mingle with people. The world says, "Once Bitten Twice Shy", forgiveness doesn't mean such hurt should repeat itself.
Esau, brother to Jacob, was badly hurt by him. He was cheated twice on different occasions and took his fatherly blessings (Genesis 27). But years later, the forgiven driven mentality of Esua let go of the hurt. When he met Jacob, despite the fear of revenge in Jacob, he hugged him with Joy, without resentment or revenged mindset, (Genesis 33:4). It was seen that Esau was also a mighty man with four hundred (400) bodyguards by then, this is what forgiveness mentality does, it gives you the opportunity to heal and grow.
Joseph was another good example, who was sold out by ten (10) of his blood brothers, and thirteen (13) years later there was a reunion with Joseph being the second in command in Egypt. Joseph forgave his brothers but he needed to be sure they are changed persons. He tested them severally to know if he could trust them. He said to them after his father death, "But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive."
This is a forgiven mentality. He forgave them of all their wrongs while they couldn't forgive themselves.
Brethren, it's time to forgive and be healed of those wrongs, past hurt from friends, colleagues, family, spouse, even your children. It's time to activate the forgiven mentality inorder to free yourself from self imprisonment. The scripture says, "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ" Philippians 2:5. The mind that forgives all men of their sins on the cross, that says, "Forgive them, for they know not what they do" Luke 23:24. Let go and let God take over.
Lastly, Jesus said while teaching us on how to pray, "12. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors - Matthew 6:12.
If we don't forgive, we can't earn forgiveness.
