TOPIC: TYPES OF MENTALITY: Poverty Driven Mentality (6)
One Year Bible Reading:
1 Samuel 23 - 25, Luke 21: 5 - 38.
MEMORY VERSE:
Philippians 4:8.
"8. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
BIBLE READING:
Proverbs 11:24.
"24. There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty."
Thinking Point:
Poverty mentality isn't just a product of lack of job or wealth but the ability to withhold even what we have.
God is not proud that some of His children are rich and some are poor because one of the reasons for the death of our Lord Jesus Christ is for us to become rich and wealthy in all areas of life. No one is created poor but our mentality determines where we belong. Every great man goes beyond normal, goes the extra mile and does what others will not do to gain affluence but a poverty mentality person will take little or no action to become great in life.
One of the reasons for the poverty mentality is how the little we have controls us, what we do with what we have. The scripture speaks, saying, "There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is THAT WITHHOLDETH MORE THAN IS MEET, but it tendeth to poverty." Ability to release more than you can, going the extra mile, adding more value to what you do brings one out of poverty. Poverty mentality belittles one by holding onto that little instead of giving it back to gain more. The widow of Zarephath's situation changes from poverty level to affluence when she releases the little she has to Elijah, 1 Kings 17: 8 - 16. Stinginess is one of the key to poverty mentality, "I don't have", "I can't give", "it's not enough to be of help", the scripture says, "and there is THAT WITHHOLDETH MORE THAN IS MEET, but it tendeth to poverty." What you are supposed to sow you keep to yourself, you eat it up and go back to "square zero". Poverty mentality response to how we control what we have.
Another poverty mentality is to be selective of what to do. You class yourself beyond where you are. You are too proud to do menial jobs or waiting for a better job which you're not prepared for.
"33. Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:"
"34. So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man."
Proverbs 24:33-34.
When you choose to be idle when you are supposed to be active in doing something your mentality can't think beyond poverty. What you're not prepared for can't get to you. Opportunity doesn't come to meet you on your bed while sleeping or while playing around. Opportunity will only come in the area you're prepared for. To think big without doing anything in that line is a poverty mentality. To have plans but not running after it leads to poverty. No one will employ a poverty mentality person except by mistake and that's why many can't retain their job nor grow with what they do.
Lastly, what are you thinking? Do you see affluence as impossibility? Do you think wealth is meant for some set of persons in life? "As a man thinketh so is He…" Proverbs 23:7.
The more you think about affluence and work towards it, the more doors of opportunity open to become it. It's time to change your mentality about poverty, get an affluent mentality instead and before you know it, you are who you desire to be.
Good morning, and God bless you.
