TOPIC: FAITHFULNESS Precedes FULFILMENT: Be A Tither (4)

One Year Bible Reading:
Esther 8 - 10, Acts 15: 23 - 16: 1 - 15..

MEMORY VERSE:
Nehemiah 9:7-8
"7. You are the lord God, who chose Abram and brought him from Ur of the Chaldeans and renamed him Abraham. 8. When he had proved himself faithful, you made a covenant with him to give him and his descendants the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Jebusites, and Girgashites. And you have done what you promised, for you are always true to your word."

BIBLE READING:
Genesis 14:17-20.
"17. And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale. 18. And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. 19. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: 20. And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. AND HE GAVE HIM TITHES OF ALL.

Thinking Point:
Tithing is giving back to God from what He has blessed you with willingly.

A happy day to everyone this morning, our joy shall be perfected this month and we shall walk into our peace in Jesus name, Amen.

My teaching today will call for disagreement from those who disagree with tithing but if you will follow me truthfully we will all come to the same pivoted point. Tithing has been a discussion between believers over two years back and it has been spreading like ringworm to the extent of calling ministers who preached about it names and all that. But first of all, what is tithe? Who pays it first? Who received it first and who commanded it first? This will be addressed this morning, let's go on this journey together.
1. Tithe is an act of giving 10% of your profit; Income - capital = profit. You are giving back to God from the profit you've made in your business, salary or gifts. It's an act of surrendering to God, showing faithfulness.
2. Who pays it first in the Bible? It was our Father Abraham. After he recovered all the loot from those Kings who took Lot captive, he paid "a tithe of all" to Melchizedek, the prince of the most High.
3. Who received it first? Melchizedek, the prince of the Most High God received tithe from Abraham. Tithe is meant for those called by God, ordained as a priest, prophet, or pastors not for any person, either widow or the poor. Tithe is not a gift to help the less privileged, No, it's meant for servants of God.
4. Who commanded it? Smile, it's a personal decision, no one should compel you to give. Giving in all senses should be from the heart to forcefully.
5. Lastly, why should I pay tithe? (A) it opens the door of God's blessings. (B) To meet the needs of God's servant. (C) To show that we revere God with our resources.

Tithing was later mandated when God chose the tribe of Levi, to care for the needs of the Levite and the priest since they are to serve God in the temple, Numbers 18:23-24.
To this dispensation, after the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus, tithe has not been revoked by God or Jesus. In Matthew Jesus made mention of paying tithe again,
Matthew 23:23,
"23. What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore the more important aspects of the law—justice, mercy, and faith. YOU SHOULD TITHE, YES, but do not neglect the more important things.' NLT.

He never stopped tithing, he only made it known that tithing should stop you from showing Mercy, Faith and Justice. We shall continue on tithing tomorrow and see how it shows our readiness for the fulfilment of God's promises.

Good morning, and God bless you.
