TOPIC: FAITHFULNESS PRECEDES FULFILMENT: Show Hospitality (7)
One Year Bible Reading:
Job 6 - 8, Acts 17: 16 - 34.
MEMORY VERSE:
Nehemiah 9:7-8
"7. You are the lord God, who chose Abram and brought him from Ur of the Chaldeans and renamed him Abraham. 8. When he had proved himself faithful, you made a covenant with him to give him and his descendants the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Jebusites, and Girgashites. And you have done what you promised, for you are always true to your word."
BIBLE READING:
Genesis 18:1-4.
"1. And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; 2. And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground, 3. And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant: 4. Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:"
Thinking Point:
Being welcoming to strangers is another proof of readiness for God's promise.
It's another resting day for us, may the good Lord renew our strength in Jesus name, Amen.
Today, our focus is ‘showing hospitality’ as proof of readiness for God's promises. Beloved, God will test us in different aspects to know us better before He releases the fulfilment of those promises. He won't let His blessings fall on unprepared hands who will not carry out the reasons for His purpose. Those who will not welcome strangers, attend to others needs, show hospitality are not ready for the promises of God. Do we remember the widow of Zarephath, she welcomed Elijah. The shunamite woman invited Elisha into her house. When Jesus sent His disciples out to preach the Gospel, He said any house that welcomes them, they should stay in it and eat whatever it's presented to them, Luke 9. In Matthew 25:35, 38, 40.
"25. For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I Was A Stranger, AND YE TOOK ME in: 38. WHEN SAW WE THEE A STRANGER, AND TOOK THEE IN? or naked, and clothed thee? 40. And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
Being welcoming to others, feeding the needy, helping the poor and all that are proofs qualifying us for the promises of God.
That was what Abraham did with the angels, by welcoming the three visitors he activated the promise of Isaac. Many of us have rejected the fulfillment of God's promises by shying away from responsibility, by being too conscious of helping people into our homes. We have turned people down because of the occurrences around us and by doing so we are yet to qualify for God's promises. How is our attitude towards strangers? Are we welcoming or responsive to strangers? To be ready for God's promises we need to be sensitive to helping strangers around us.
