TOPIC: A WET WOOD: Dry Wood Can Be Cut Down Too (5)
One Year Bible Reading:
Psalm 99 - 101, Romans 15: 14 - 33.
Memory Verse:
Prov. 26:20
"20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out; And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases."
BIBLE READING:
Math. 3:8-10.
"8. Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, 9. and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. 10. And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire."
Thinking Point:
A dry wood that's without fruit can be cut down also, be productive as a believer.
We have been discussing wet and dry wood. Wet woods are woods which are not useful to God at a particular time, which means, they can still become a dry wood and be available for God's use. Dry woods are those woods available for God, they are working presently, carrying out their duty in their respective places. But some of these dry woods are carried away by activities, tasks and human strength, leaving God Himself behind. We talked about eye service rendered by the wet wood yesterday, but dry woods are not doing eye services, they are rendering their services but not producing fruits.
John the Baptist, was speaking to those who thought they knew it all. He explained that it's not the activities that matters, it's the productivity. You may be a dry or wet wood at your duty post but your behaviour to others is sending souls away rather than saving souls, that is very dangerous. Many think being disciplined is to be strict and not bendable, that is very wrong. Being a vessel of God makes you bend your doctrines for the sake of winning a soul to God. Apostle Paul said,
"19. For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. 20. And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; 21. To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. 22. To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23. And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you. - 1 Corinthians 9:19-23
This is who a believer should be, not a rigid believer with strict principles.
John said, the axe has been laid to the root of the tree, to be cut down. God is giving a warning to someone reading this Devotional today to trace your path back to God. Not by activities but productivity. Not being too physical about your services but also being conscious of spirituality. Are you one of the woods to be cut down? Have you left God behind in your endeavours? Can you please seek redress today to ask for forgiveness of sins and change your behaviours? If people run from God because of you you are that wood to be cut down. Read, think through and take the right steps this morning.
I pray for everyone today, may we not be full of activities but productivity in Jesus Mighty Name, May we not be cut down from our duty post in Jesus's Precious name, Amen.
Good morning, and God bless you.
