Oluboye Emmanuel Ministry Mobile Daily Devotional Week 5, Day 1, Sunday, 25th January, 2026 TOPIC: JONAH'S STORY; A Judgmental Prophet (1)
TOPIC: JONAH'S STORY; A Judgmental Prophet (1)
One Year Bible Reading:
Exodus 8 - 9
Matthew 17:14 - 18:1 - 14
MEMORY VERSE:
1 Samuel 15:22
"22. And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams."
BIBLE READING:
Jonah 1:1-3.
"1. Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2. Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. 3. But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD."
Thinking Point:
Being a judgmental believer doesn't define God's decision on a matter.
This new week, the hand of the Lord shall be mighty upon us, breaking every limitation until we become unstoppable in Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
I welcome you to this week's teachings as we study at the feet of the Lord again. Our case study this week is Prophet Jonah: A Prophet of God. Who knows the Lord more than His Prophet? Who hears God more than His Prophet? Prophets are servants of God who hear God continuously without doubt. They walk with God daily and know ahead of others by the virtue of their office. Prophet Jonah wasn't excluded from other Prophets, He knows God. He hears God, speaks for God and understands the Lord's voice, what a rare privilege.
One day, God called him to go to a country called Nineveh to speak a message of repentance, to draw the people away from their sin and turn them to God. Prophet Jonah heard God clearly, he knew the location and knew about their wayward lifestyle, but He turned away from carrying out the assignment. He knew the direction God sent him but went in the opposite direction, why? Because he was too judgmental like many Christians in the world today. He knew what God wanted and what He wanted him to do but he intentionally afforded doing it. Isn't that what we do today around the globe? Many church attendees know what is right, what God demands of us but we turned away to do what places us. Many Christian marriages, including ministers of God, knew the principle of God concerning marriage but still turned a deaf ear to God's will and walked in their own ways just like Jonah because we judge beyond reasoning. The scripture said, "But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD". Beloved, are we in the presence of God? Are we in Nineveh or on our way to Tarshish? Have we fled from God's presence with our attitude? Many instructions of God were not carried out because of personal gain, personal hatred, personal ego, being judgmental and tribalism. Where are we heading to this week, into His presence or away from His presence? Is our lifestyle to please God or please self? How judgmental are we today with God's assignment and God's people? It's better to turn back before it's too late because no sacrifice or self judgement is worth disobeying God's voice. Remain in God's presence.
God Bless you and Good Morning.
