Oluboye Emmanuel Ministry Mobile Daily Devotional Week 5, Day 4, Wednesday, 28th January, 2026 TOPIC: JONAH'S STORY; Anti - Mercy (4)
TOPIC: JONAH'S STORY; Anti - Mercy (4)
One Year Bible Reading:
Exodus 15
Matthew 19:16 - 30 - 20: 1 - 16
MEMORY VERSE:
1 Samuel 15:22
"22. And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams."
BIBLE READING:
Jonah 1:14-15.
"14. Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.
15 So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging."
Thinking Point:
You can't accommodate whom God is fighting, let them go.
Today, no evil shall befall us, nor shall any plague come nigh our dwelling, for the Lord of hosts shall be our cover in Jesus Mighty name, Amen.
Beloved of God, one advantage we have as believers in Christ is access to information from God. We can speak to Him and He will answer us. We can depend on what He says because that's the final say. Jonah endangered the lives in the ship by his disobedience to God. The Mariners lost many goods to the storm but Jonah had nothing to lose because there was no luggage with him. So many people you are trying to protect or save from evil at your detriment have nothing to lose so they are careless. When you try to assist the people like Jonah you're stressing yourself because they know that God is against them. The best step to take is to seek God's opinion about rendering help. The Mariners called their God, casted the lot and it fell on Jonah as the cause of the storm but still he felt no remorse.
Jonah said, "Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you." But the people couldn't take that action; they kept showing Jonah mercy at their detriment. They saw it as killing an innocent Jonah instead of saving him. You’ve tried all you could to help that lazy man/woman, that unprepared spouse who belief abuse is part of marriage, those who belief it's impossible to live righteous, before they influence your life negatively, let them go, let someone else enjoy that mercy.
"13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them."
You have prayed, helped, lost many friends and important valuables and you still hold on to what is destroying your business, your marriage, your walk with God, please withdraw your mercy for someone else and let it go, go after your peace of mind. Johan was merciless to the people of Nineveh but the sailors keep wasting their mercy on him, be wise to let him go before God brings destruction on you.
"...., and the sea ceased from her raging."
May we not waste our lives in the process of saving a life that God is against. Meanwhile, be sure God has instructed you to let him go. Be sure to have tried all means with the help of God before withdrawing your mercy, if God is keeping us we need to be obedient to His leading also. May we not grieve the holy spirit in Jesus name, Amen.
God Bless you and Good Morning.
