TOPIC: The Voice Of God: Doubt (4)

"21. And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left."
BIBLE READING:
Judges 4:4-9.
"4. And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time. 5. And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment. 6. And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedeshnaphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the LORD God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun? 7. And I will draw unto thee to the river Kishon Sisera, the captain of Jabin's army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thine hand. 8. And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go. 9. And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the LORD shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.
Thinking Point:
Doubt and unbelief are hindrances to the voice of God.
A wonderful day to everyone. It's the mid week again, whatever desires and pursuit of ours this week, for the glory of God, will be accomplished in the Name of Jesus, Amen.
As we continue on our topic, "The Voice Of God", we have seen different reasons why we are not hearing God's voice which are lack of attentiveness, lack of recognition of His voice and lack of meditation. So, we progress to another point which is Doubt and Unbelief. Many believers hear the voice of God directly but doubt deny them the result, they doubt if God is speaking to them, why because it doesn't look like the path they want to trend on. Some doubt because of fear and intimidation. The voice of God is always direct and specific but when it comes in contact with doubt it becomes neutralized without effectiveness, then we conclude it's not God's voice. When God visited Gideon in Judges 6:12-13,
"12. And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.
13. And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites."
Gideon doubted because of the situation they were in. He saw the voice of the angel in contrast compared to what was happening around him. He kept doubting which later led to tempting the angel, but many of us are not privileged to this level because of our disbelief.
When God sent Deborah to instruct Barak the son of Abinoam, to go to war with Sisera He doubted the voice and lost the honour of killing him. He saw it as an impossible situation. When we doubt God's voice a time will come when punishment will be attached to it. Zachariah was a priest in his days, when he doubted the voice of an angel about having a child at old age, we remember what happened to him,
Luke 1:20,
"20. And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season."
When we doubt His voice there are consequences because we made Him a liar. So the voice of God has been doubted many times by believers which stops us from hearing Him again when He speaks. How often do you doubt His voice? How often do we fail to carry out His instructions to pray for someone, call someone or deliver a message to someone? When the spirit speaks what has always been our reaction, doubt or belief? God is speaking but we keep doubting His voice so it feels as if He is not speaking. It is very dangerous to doubt the voice of God. Act as you hear His voice.
