TOPIC: The Voice Of God: Lack of meditation (3)
One Year Bible Reading:
Exodus 38 - 39
Matthew 27:1 - 26
MEMORY VERSE:
Isaiah 30:21.
"21. And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left."
BIBLE READING:
Psalms 119:97-100.
"97. O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. 98. Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. 99. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. 100. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts."
Thinking Point:
Meditating on God's word reveals His voice and His will.
Today, may we receive the ear to hear and the eyes to see from the words of God in Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen.
Our focus today on reasons for not hearing the voice of God is the lack of meditating on His word. The Bible is God's spoken word to our great fathers of old and to us this day. It is the mind of God and the voice of God. The more we study this book of the law the more we know and hear Him. When we study the word of God daily, we get instructions, direction, guardians and know His will. When we know God's will that means He is speaking to us directly. When God was instructing Joshua in Joshua 1:8, He said,
"8. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success."
God was giving him instructions on how to hear Him from the verse saying,
1. Reading and Speak the word - depart thy mouth.
2. Think about what you've read - meditating daily and night - and lastly,
3. Do according to what you've read.
Then shall you experience success in all your paths. Hearing God's voice through His word involves reading and declaring it, mediating - thinking about it to get the information you need from it, then doing it. The meditating aspect is where we recognise the voice of God. We don't read and forget but meditate on what we've read then we can hear His voice.
David was saying in Psalm 119: 97 - 100, (paraphrased)
97 Oh how I Love thy law (word), it is my meditation (my thinking) all the day.
98 Thou through thy commandments (God's word) hast made me wiser than my enemies: for they (your word) are ever with me.
99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies (your miracle, act, wonders that I have read) are my meditation.
100 I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts (instructions).
Through meditating on God's word that you've read you hear God's voice daily. How do you study His word? Do we meditate on his words day and night? This is the principle that guarded King David through his reign, hearing from God's word. Yes, we read the Bible everyday but do we meditate about it after reading in order to hear His voice? Meditating is where God's voice drops, not reading. To hear His voice we must be an addict to the studying of His word.
God Bless you and Good Morning.
