TOPIC: HONOURING ALL MEN: Your Guardian (3)

One Year Bible Reading:
Leviticus 25
Mark 6: 27 - 56

MEMORY VERSE:
1 Peter 2:17
"17. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king."

BIBLE READING:
Esther 4:15-16.
"15. Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer,
16. Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish."

Thinking Point:
Those who stepped in as a parent deserve to be honoured as a parent.

The Lord that honour will honour us this week, position us for help and increase our greatness all around in Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen.

Honouring our guardian is our focus today. Whoever honours and makes time for us needs to be honoured. There are individuals who experience upbringing through external parents, like guardians, relatives or through adoption. Many are orphans and become people to reckon with today. Those who made the sacrifice for your life need to be honoured no matter what transpired while growing up. I have seen individuals who vowed to repay their guardians in their coin but God didn't call us to judge. Yes, some step fathers, step mothers, uncles and aunts did some damage in many lives while living with them after the passing or separation of their parents, but the fact remains, you escape it all and you are alive, they deserve to be honoured as a parent.

Esther was a good example, she lost her parents early in life and was taken care of by her uncle. Mordecai practically gave Esther life in a foreign land and treated her as a daughter. We can't say there wasn't a time of misunderstanding or disagreement between them but they kept the relationship intact to the extent that Esther hid her identity according to Mordecai’s instructions. When Esther became a queen she was still obedient. She was loyal to Mordecai to go against the king's order to appear before him in order to rescue her people. Focusing on misunderstanding, maltreatment, disagreement between you and your guardian will stop you from honouring them. God knows why you were in that family. He knows the lessons He wants you to learn, likewise He knows you have a level of honour to show to that family now that you are grown up, so, it's not time to repay evil for evil but a time to show honour. It's time to honour them as you would honour your parents if you were with them.

Remember Ruth and the honour she gave to her mother in-law, Naomi in Ruth 1:16-17,
"16. And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: 17. Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.”

We might say it out of pity but no, it was an honour for the woman's attitudes towards her as a daughter in-law. She was influenced by Naomi positively and she felt like honouring her with her life despite her family's existence in Moab. No matter the attitude of your guardian they still deserve to be honoured. They gave you life and instilled some lessons in you, so forgive and let go of their wrongs and honour them. Our guardians also need to be honoured as our biological parents.

God Bless you and Good Morning.
