Thinking Point:
Standing in for a stranger is identifying a neighbour to show love.
It's another wonderful day, our strength is renewed, help shall locate us and we will be remembered for lifting In Jesus wonderful name, Amen.
The Samaritan, known to be an outsider, does not believe in Jew and has nothing to do with them. In order words, they have nothing in common with the Jewish people, they are like parallel lines which do not meet. In those days, Jew and Samaritans looked different because they dressed in their cultural attire so it was easy to identify them when you come in contact with them. This Samaritan man saw the appearance of the robbed man but against all odds went to attend to him. He didn't just see and go away but stayed and attended to him.
When God was given Moses the law for the Israelites, He said in Exodus 23:4-5,
"4. If thou meet thine enemy's ox or his ass going astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again. 5. If thou see the ass of him that hateth thee lying under his burden, and wouldest forbear to help him, thou shalt surely help with him."
This was the law that guided the Samaritan, he remembered what God commanded about showing love even to your enemies Ox or Ass and he followed suit. When you become a stranger to those who need help you are a good neighbour, a good Samaritan. You are showing the love of Christ, obeying God's command. The Samaritan was a stranger who helped an unknown person regardless of their differences in belief. He went ahead to attend to the robbed man, not for what to gain or receive but for the sake of love. When believers share love between themselves it doesn't draw men to Christ but when you share love with someone outside your circle you are affecting lives for God, you are reaching out to a new neighbour, attending to others' needs which are according to God's love.
If I may ask at this junction, this week, have you reached out to a new neighbour? Have you gone out of your circle to affect a life? Hope you are not a titled priest or you only attend to those you recognise still? This is God showing us who our neighbour is in order to show the love of Christ. Be a stranger to that stranger who needs help.
God Bless you and Good Morning.
