TOPIC: JEPHTHAH: Negotiate Your Price (6)

One Year Bible Reading:
1st Samuel 1 - 2
Luke 16

MEMORY VERSE:
Micah 7:8.
"8. Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me."

BIBLE READING:
Judges 11:8-10.
"8. And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, Therefore we turn again to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight against the children of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
9. And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home again to fight against the children of Ammon, and the LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head?
10. And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, The LORD be witness between us, if we do not so according to thy words."

Thinking Point:
When you don't negotiate your freedom you remain enslaved.

Blessed be the Lord for the strength He has bestowed on us for this week, we return to say "Thank You Jesus". Thank God it is Friday, the last working day of this week.

Lessons on the life of Jephthah have been our focus this week. How he handled rejection and being forsaking by his brothers. He was seen as a weakly who refuses to bring out the best in him. After being thrown out of the house then he discovered himself. Many will never amount to something until they are thrown out of their comfort zone just like Jephthah. When he rediscovered himself he became a mighty warrior to them. They saw him as the only option to deliver them from the hand of the Ammonite and asked for his help, to come back as their lead but Jephthah was wiser than they thought. He was not ready to be played this time around. Then he called for negotiation.

"9. ".... If ye bring me home again to fight against the children of Ammon, and the LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head?
10. And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, The LORD be witness between us, if we do not so according to thy words."

Will I be the leader of Gilead if I lead you into victory? It is like asking for his share of what's on ground. You know, many of us take things lightly and miss what God has planned for us. We focus on pleasing people not knowing they had their own plan to enslave us. Jacob fell into that situation with Laban, his uncle. He cheated him over and over again until Jacob negotiated.

Genesis 30:27-28, 31.
"27. And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake.
28. And he said, Appoint me thy wages, and I will give it.
31. And he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me any thing: if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy flock:"

Jacob never went for wages but negotiated for share of the flock. Jephthah didn't want resources but position and he got it. Do you negotiate your share or do you negotiate for money? When you don't know your worth you become a slave to others. You become used and dumped. When you let people have full power over you you become a puppet, you live by their word and you keep seeing reasons not to detach yourself from such people. Negotiate your freedom. Negotiate your way to the top. The devil was negotiating with Jesus to surrender to him in Luke 4, but Jesus won the negotiation by putting the devil where he belonged. Life is all about negotiating knowingly and unknowingly. Jephthah became the leader of Gilead by negotiation.

God Bless you and Good Morning.
