TOPIC: WHAT DISCIPLINE DOES; It Conquers Gluttony (4)
MEMORY VERSE:
Hebrews 12:11.
"11. Now no chastening (Discipline) for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
BIBLE READING:
Genesis 25:29-34.
"29. And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint:"
"30. And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom."
"31. And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright."
"32. And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?"
"33. And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob."
"34. Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright."
Thinking Point:
It takes discipline to be self control when it comes to eating and drinking. For the kingdom of God is not by eating and drinking but By righteousness, peace and Joy in the Holy Ghost - Romans 14:17.
May that weary body receive strength, enablement and joy in Jesus Mighty name, Amen.
In life, Discipline is so important that it determines the length of one's life, through disciple we can live long, enjoy the best of life, have good savings and investment, and also be a blessing to others. Discipline prolongs life and exempt us from evil. When we can't tame our mouth on when and what to eat, we may cut short our lives here on earth and without an inheritance for our children and grand children. Glutton has caused many their purpose in life, bring ailment without cure and many more losses, it's my prayer today, that we shall all overcome the consequences of glutton in Jesus mighty name, Amen.
Indiscipline of Esau, hunger for food, made him lost his birthright to Jacob, you may say it was destined, Yes, but it wouldn't have been that easy but he's indisciplined attitude made it easier. Why will you interchange your birthright with a meal, not meals of porridge? When you can't control your appetite you have a lot to loose. That's why it will be difficult for you to save and invest because you always want to purchase what you don't need, you want to eat what others are eating even when it's not good for you body. You just want to spend as you earn. Indiscipline sometimes makes you waste resources claiming you are a philanthropist all because you want to oppress others.
Proverbs 23:20-21, says,
"20. Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:"
"21. For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags."
Glutton and drunkenness leads to poverty, very hard to control without being discipline. How much do you love food? It even stops you from fasting. You can't live without drinking, even to stupor, check around yourself if you can overcome poverty. Be discipline in what you eat and drink, it will help you make better achievement in life.
