7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and SELF-DISCIPLINE.

Thinking Point:
Being anointed by God does not replace good Character. Characters need to be built as we build our spiritual growth.

Beloved of God, building one's self is in different categories. That you build yourself spiritually doesn't take away personal character building. Relating with people entails good character and behaviour. Being spiritually grounded is different from having good manners. Samson is a good example of God's grace who lacks good character; he couldn't control himself when it comes to women, Judges 14:1-2,16:1-2, 4-5. The senior prophet was anointed but lacks the character to control his jealousy against the young prophet, 1 Kings 13. When we develop ourselves spiritually, we also need to build a good character in order not to bring shame to God. Nebuchadnezzar, was called the servant of the most high but couldn't control his pride despite being warned. Bad character tarnishes the grace of God. The power for self control - character building has been given to us all but we need to build it and live by it.

Every situation around our lives comes to build a character in us. Most times, what we go through is what God uses to sharpen our character to fit his assignment for our lives but we tend to remain adamant to what He is taking away from our lives. What's the attitude that men complain about you? What's that area you know and feel it's bringing shame and complaining to your life? It's time to start working on them. As believers, we need to be more accommodative, welcoming and tolerant of others. Attitude to live with others and be committed is part of those character we need to build in order for the spirit of God to work in us. Build godly character as you build your spiritual growth.
