Mobile Daily Devotional with Pst. Oluboye Emmanuel Week 51, Day 5, Thursday, 19th December 2024 TOPIC: THE DECEIT OF THE DEVIL: Lust Of The Eyes (5)

TOPIC: THE DECEIT OF THE DEVIL: Lust Of The Eyes (5)

MEMORY VERSE:
1 Peter 5:8.
"8. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:"

BIBLE READING:
Genesis 3:6.
"6. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, ..."

Thinking Point:
Fantasy is what the devil uses against believers, making the eye see beyond what is really before it which is fake.

Within the remaining days of this month and year, the Lord will answer your heart's desires and make you a blessing in Jesus' Mighty name, Amen.

The trick of the devil is to paint someone else's garden greener than yours, to show you packaging without letting you know the content. He is a liar as Jesus called him. All he does is to distract you from godliness and God's will for your life. Let me use marriage as an example, what the devil paints to you about that marriage you are envying isn't what it is. Every marriage has its ups and downs but each faces it headlong and accepts it as their cross. No marriage is without issues, misunderstanding, argument or times of lack but those marriages that you see working are products of determination. That determination was what Eve lack that made her give up so soon. When you steal that funds belonging to others you will always realise it wasn't as joyful as you imagine, you were carried away with lust not the real content from the onset.

Let's imagine, a fruit you've been seeing for many days, how can it change to become good for food, pleasant to the eyes and for desiring wisdom, in some minute? The devil makes you lust for the act, that bad attitude and imbalance of emotion till you fall for it if care is not taken. That's why when many fall into sin the common words is, "it's the devil" no, it's lust of the eyes. When we can't control what we gaze at for too long it takes us to where we never want to be. The scripture speaking in 2 Timothy said,
7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and SELF-DISCIPLINE. (NLT)

Some other versions put it this way, "Self - control". When we lack self control we will always be victims of lust for the eyes. Eve was carried away by the lust of the eyes and fell victim to disobeying God's instructions. How often have we been a victim of lust for the eyes? Do we control ourselves not to repeat the same excuses? What is that thought that has repeatedly occupied your heart? It's time to rebuke and control yourself by rejecting it before it takes you out of God's presence. What you are lusting after is not always as painted, it's a prototype that doesn't look real. Be contempt with what you have and work on making it better rather than lusting for alternatives.
