TOPIC: LESSONS FROM SAUL AND DAVID: Becoming The Leader (20)
One Year Bible Reading:
2 King 10 - 12, John 11: 1 - 16.
MEMORY VERSE:
Matthew 11:12.
"12. And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force."
BIBLE READING:
1 Samuel 17:52-53.
"52. And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron. 53. And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents."
Thinking Point:
The world is waiting for a courageous and God fearing leader, be that leader.
Wherever there is chaos it's proof that a courageous and God-fearing leader is lacking. Any home that crashes is as a result of a bad leader, you may want to ask why? A leader isn't a dictator but one who finds a way to handle the present situation. A leader is not one who rules and judges his/her people by worldly wisdom or man wisdom, they lead and judge by God's wisdom. Being a leader is not a matter of age nor experience but a product of being guided by God. Any leader that submits to God the followers will submit to him/her. The world awaits a great leader who will direct them and they are ready to follow when they are sure he/she is that leader.
Three sets of leaders from this passage of this Bible. We had King Saul as a leader, Goliath as a leader and the emergency of a new leader, David. The soldiers of Israel needed a leader to lead them into battle against Goliath which was supposed to be King Saul but he couldn't stand the gap. The Philistines already had a dependable leader who has been leading them to all battles. David was not a soldier but a Shepard boy who finds himself at the battlefront. But on that day, only one leader ruled amongst the three leaders which was David, a young boy. A leader determines what happens to the soldier. When the leader of the Philistines fell and was killed, the Philistines took to their heels because their leader was gone and the Israelite soldiers began to chase after the Philistines because their new leader defeated Goliath. Brethren, there are soldiers, followers, believers who are looking up to you to be their leader. They no longer focus on the reigning king Saul, they need a new leader, are you ready to lead the troops? Are you preparing to be the new leader?
Romans 8:19-21.
"19. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. 20. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, 21. Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God."
Men are waiting for you, they are looking up to you and I. They needed Moses to lead them out of Egypt. God is counting on you and I, are we going to disappoint Him? David stood the ground and defeated Goliath but the soldiers defeated the Philistines, all they needed was a leader to handle their leader and they handled the soldiers. We have been endowed to do that but are we ready to carry the cross? Are we ready to become that reliable leader? Think about this today. Stop running from responsibility and take on the challenges, we have been equipped for it.
