BIBLE READING:
1 Samuel 17:55-58.
"55. And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell. 56. And the king said, Enquire thou whose son the stripling is. 57. And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand. 58. And Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, thou young man? And David answered, I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Bethlehemite."
Thinking Point:
Until you affect lives for God no one searches out your background.
We bless God for His revelation for the past three (3) weeks on this series. Many lessons have been learnt through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit but my desire is that we inculcate these lessons in our lives to create a better us in the world, may God's name be glory in Jesus name, Amen.
Today, we focus on fame that isn't requested for but earned. We know many in our world today are going after fame in the wrong way. Many try to destroy and bring others down to be famous. Everyone wants to become a celebrity without following the right part. We talk of the Gen Z generation who are eager to earn money and be famous but is that the way to fame? Not at all. Believers and ministers of God also try to add other means in order to be famous, that is why you see many famous persons become relegated when their wicked ways are exposed. We are to earn fame not request for it.
David's focus wasn't on fame, his focus was on God. When we care for God and make Him our focus He makes us the focus of the world. When we speak for Him, seek His way, defend Him in our little ways, that's when He makes us famous, not the other way round. David went to the battlefield as a nobody but came out a famous person without requesting it. The King began to search for his real family, who his father was, his genealogy, why? Because he stood out for God, defended the nation whose king could not defend.
If I may ask you, reader of this devotional, what are you doing for God that can earn you fame? In your marriage, can your way of life earn you fame and respect or shame and disrespect? As a minister, you don't need to tell people you are the founder before you are respected, you need to earn it by affecting others lives. We don't ask for fame, we work it out. We don't need to pray for it, we act on it daily. Fame shouldn't be our goal, pleasing God should be the focus. Jesus said,
"32. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. -John 12:32."
Until we lift Christ up in all our ways we can't be lifted high, He can't announce us to the world. We don't need to become a pastor to lift Jesus high, all we need is to do what is right wherever we find ourselves. You can only be sought for when you have what people need and this can be done by following Christ principles. Don't go after fame just affects the lives around you positively, making Jesus known through your behaviour and attitude and God will lift you higher to the next level in life.
