TOPIC: LESSONS FROM SAUL AND DAVID: Tame Your Words (26)

One Year Bible Reading:
I Chronicles 1 - 2, John 14: 15 - 31.

MEMORY VERSE:
Matthew 11:12.
"12. And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force."

BIBLE READING:
1 Samuel 18:6-9.
"6. And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick. 7. And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands. 8. And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom? 9. And Saul eyed David from that day and forward."

Thinking Point:
Watch your words, do not create enmity for yourself and others while celebrating.

As believers we need to weigh our utterances before we spill it out. Often when celebrating one and another we need to watch the words we use in order not to hurt someone else. Many issues in life start from words of mouth with a clean heart but it birthed a different meaning to the other party. You can't be celebrating and mentioning other persons who desire those same blessings. Such celebration can lead to mockery, insult or reproach. Sometimes we don't consider our reactions to the word we throw at others, "If this word is directed at me how will I feel?" We need to think on our words before spilling out.

The women thought they were celebrating David's victory not knowing they poisoned Saul's heart towards David. But come to think of it, did David really kill Ten of Thousands (10,000)? No. He killed Goliath while the Israelites army killed the Philistines. It was an exaggeration on the part of the woman and the same song meant for joy brought hatred to David from Saul. Yes, celebrate but always remember there are people who lack what you're celebrating, don't let it become a mockery to them. Watch your words. When you are celebrating that promotion remember not everyone was promoted, control your celebration before it becomes an arrow to the heart of others. Tame your words before you hurt others with it.
