TOPIC: LESSONS FROM SAUL AND DAVID: Discouragers interference (6)
One Year Bible Reading:
1 King 2 - 3, John 4 : 27 - 54.
MEMORY VERSE:
Matthew 11:12.
"12. And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force."
BIBLE READING:
1 Samuel 17:28.
"28. And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle."
Thinking Point:
Everything good has enmity or an opposition. It may look like caring but beware.
Have you ever made a strong decision and people try to talk you out of it? Have you made up your mind to speak up for God and relatives, family members and close friends tried discouraging you from doing it? Yes, it's called, "discouragers interference". They are not willing to do what you desire but are willing to discourage you from doing it, presenting good reasons not to take the step. Every great decision needs great motivation but it also comes with a great antagonist.
Eliab was David's elder brother and a soldier of Saul. He tried using his position as elder brother and David's responsibility to prevent him from facing Goliath. He accused him of coming to see the battle. But do we remember he was sent there to care for his brother. Listen, when the spirit of the Lord is upon a man he can't look away from anything that defies the name of the Lord, that was the case of David. Saul could run away from the battlefield, the soldiers of Israel saw nothing bad in what Goliath was doing because they lacked the spirit of the Lord within. But David has been anointed and the spirit of the Lord is upon him. He was able to recognise the attack on God, but his elder brother who doesn't have the same spirit was trying to discourage him because they don't know what he carried.
Brethren, don't let those who don't carry what you carry and those who don't know what you are carrying to discourage you from functioning with that endowment. They will remind you how your father failed, other people who died while trying, and those who are running from that responsibility, they will give you reasons to quit what God has predestined you for, don't listen to them, this may be your breaking point in life if you will take the step. Beware of discouragers interference, don't let them talk you out of what God has ordained you to do.
