Oluboye Emmanuel Ministry Mobile Daily Devotional Week 42, Day 4, Wednesday, 15th October, 2025 TOPIC: DAVID'S HEART: Why Jonathan and Not Saul? (4)

TOPIC: DAVID'S HEART: Why Jonathan and Not Saul? (4)

One Year Bible Reading:
Isaiah 61 - 62
1 Thessalonians 5: 1 - 28

MEMORY VERSE:
Psalms 89:20.
"20. I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:"

BIBLE READING:
1 Samuel 20:12-13.
"12. And Jonathan said unto David, O LORD God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to morrow any time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then send not unto thee, and shew it thee; 13. The LORD do so and much more to Jonathan: but if it please my father to do thee evil, then I will shew it thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and the LORD be with thee, as he hath been with my father."

Thinking Point:
Fulfilling one's vows to God and men is a sign of the fear of God.

May the grace of the Lord manifest in all our dealings today in Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
Yesterday, we asked, why David wanted to show kindness to any member of the house of Saul on behalf of Jonathan and not because of King Saul. There was a time King Saul was the archenemy of David. David was a seventeen year old boy who he entered into the king's service. He was fetched out to cast away the evil spirit upon King Saul and he played the role perfectly not until the evil spirit began to use Saul against David himself. When everyone in the palace and in Israel stood against David, Jonathan stood tall for David, he spoke to his father on his behalf. He took a vow on behalf of David and was faithful to the vow. He placed himself under a cause if he refuses to speak the truth about his father's intention, and yes, he spoke the truth and saved David's life.

1 Samuel 20:42.
"42. And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever. And he arose and departed: and Jonathan went into the city."

Jonathan knew David would be king on his behalf but he went ahead to expose his father's intention and asked him to do the same between his seed and David's seed. Now, David was settled as the King of Israel. He remembered those promises, he remembered those who sacrificed all on his behalf. Then he began the search for any seed of Saul in order to fulfill the vow between him and Jonathan.

Every help rendered needs to be rewarded whether asked for or not, either vowed for or not, it's our duty to pay back to those who helped us. Many believers were raised to position and worked against those who raised or made them, pulling down those who recommended them. When you strike those who stood for you it will always lead to your downfall because no one will desire to help you again. What vows do you need to keep, marriage vows, friendship vows, rewarding help granted in the past? Helping children of your helpers or colleagues? Here this, you don't know people without a reason, it's either to help them or being helped. No relationship is without help. Every relationship should be for the transfer of help. This morning, be a helper, even to the children of your enemies, it's a seed for the future.

God Bless you and Good Morning.
