Oluboye Emmanuel Ministry© Mobile Daily Devotional Week 9, Day 5, Thursday, 26th February, 2026 TOPIC: HONOURING ALL MEN: The Elders (5)

TOPIC: HONOURING ALL MEN: The Elders (5)

One Year Bible Reading:
Numbers 1 - 2
Mark 7: 24 - 8: 1 - 13

MEMORY VERSE:
1 Peter 2:17
"17. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king."

BIBLE READING:
Leviticus 19:32 (NLT)
"32 “Stand up in the presence of the elderly, and show respect for the aged. Fear your God. I am the lord."

Thinking Point:
Honour elders no matter the level and position you find yourself.

Everything attracting dishonour into our lives is rebuked today, whatever mark or stigma resisting honour is hereby cancelled by the blood of Jesus.

Our focus yesterday was to honour our spouse at home and in the presence of our children. Let honour flow from your spouse to others outside your home. Today, our focus is Honouring elders, old age, those ahead of us no matter how privileged we are. There is a saying in my dialect which says, "An child can't have more clothes than his father's rag", meaning you can't know more than those who are ahead of you. When you honour the elders you are attracting honour to yourself unknowingly. Many think anointing is more than age or experience, neither position, title or wealth add to your age, no, if someone is older than you honour such a person either a man or a woman. God gives the elders wisdom that the young ones need to raise to fulfillment in life. Another adage in Nigeria says, "What an elder sees while sitting if a young man climbs an iroko tree he can't see it", old age is wisdom gained from many life experiences.

Moses and Jethro, Exodus 18.
Moses was called by God to lead the Israelites to the Canaan land. He enjoyed the leading of the Lord all along but his father-in-law was an elderly man and a priest. Regardless of the presence of God with Moses he honoured Jethro by listening to his advice about delegation of duty to groups of 100, 50 and 10. Despite speaking to God face to face he honoured an Ethiopian man who is elderly to him, he would have replied to him “What do you know and shun his advice”, No he danced to his tune.

Apostle Paul was admonishing Timothy saying,
"1. Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father;..."
"2. The elder women as mothers;..."

Elders are to be treated as father and mother, they are not to be rebuked but honoured. Apostle Paul was speaking to his spiritual son who was a leader in the church, to honour elders. Who are these elders? They are ahead of you one way or the other either in public places, environs, workplace and worship place. Nothing qualifies you to be older than an elder, not finances, wealth, positions, title or rank, when someone is older than you honour them. You don't honour your parents and spouse and dishonour an Elder God won't be pleased. He was instructing Moses to tell the children of Israel saying,
“Stand up in the presence of the elderly, and show respect for the aged…..”
Showing them respect is honouring them no matter how low their positing is to you. Honour them, respect them and bless them, give a listening ear to their saying and gain wisdom. When you honour the elders you are positioning yourself for honour too. Honour all men according to the word of Apostle Peter.

God Bless you and Good Morning.
