Thinking Point:
Praying and speaking well of God's servant is a form of honour.
Faithful God has done it again, it's the last Friday of February. Father, we thank you for life and safety all through this month. For all benefits and blessings, we return to say “Thank You Jesus”.
Our focus today is honouring God's Servant. Those who teach God's will and show us how to please God deserve to be honored greatly. Everyone has their assignment but we are their business, their work and their sources of income. They study to make us a better person. They study to show us the way to live. They stand before God on our behalf, speaking to Him daily. God's servants shield us from unseen arrows flying day and night. They are watchmen, intercessors, teachers, leaders and God scrutinized them on our behalf.
Apostle Paul speaking to Timothy said,
"Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially those who labour in the word and doctrine."
Elders who labour in the word, who teach the truth should be given double honour. They should be revered because of their duty. Let us meditate on the verse little,
"Let the Elders That Rule Well..."
Those who rule well, serve well, who rightly studies and teaches the mind of God well,
"... be counted worthy of double honour,"
Those who are true to their calling should be honoured in double folds. Now, let us make this clear, that the servant of God shows some form of weakness doesn't make them less of God's servant. That some fall into temptation doesn't deny the fact that they are God's servant and shouldn't be honoured. The apostle Paul said, "Let the elders that rule well..." talking about consistency in ruling, leading, serving and dishing out God's mind, not those who aren't consistent with what they preached. If they've been labouring in the word consistently, doing God's will and then fall short in one area of life, that doesn't make them less of their calling. We are to help them at that moment to get back on their feet. To pray for them, not criticize them or make fun of them. Given them double honour means we care for them, pray for them and look into their well being. Ministers hardly discuss their problems or challenges on the altar but when we honour them through our giving and obedience we renew their strength and honour God in them. Apostle Paul later concluded saying,
"The labourer is worthy of his reward." If they labour in the word they deserve to be rewarded by those who they laboured on. These rewards come via honour. Through gifts, prayers, visit and care. We honour them with obedience and belief in their words. Men of God deserve to be honored including how we speak of them. We, as humans, make mistakes everyday but when they do we see it as a terrible sin not considering their human aspect, they need to be honoured by our words of encouragement not criticism, they need our understanding, and as we get to know these and do them we are honouring God in their lives. Honour God's servant who rules well.
God Bless you and Good Morning.
