TOPIC: HONOURING ALL MEN: Yourself (7)

One Year Bible Reading:
Numbers 5
Mark 8:27 - 38

MEMORY VERSE:
1 Peter 2:17
"17. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king."

BIBLE READING:
Matthew 22:39.
"39. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."

Thinking Point:
Honour yourself first and do the same to others.

It is the last day of the month of February, Father, we celebrate your faithfulness upon our lives. We give you thanks for all provisions, sustainers and for bringing us this far, you are worthy of our praise father, blessed be to your holy name in Jesus name, Amen.

As we round up this week's focus which is Honouring All Men, we can't honour all men without honouring ourselves. We can't care for others without taking care of ourselves. It's impossible to attend to others without attending to ourselves, it's when we have sound health that we can have the privilege to honour others. In the teaching of Jesus on Mount Olive in Matthew 7:3-5, Jesus said,
"3. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4. Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5. Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye."

This teaching focuses on attending to ourselves before attending to others. You keep pointing to the mote, a tiny substance, in someone else's eye when you have a plank in yours. Likewise, you can't honour others without honouring yourself first. You can't care for others better when you are not in good shape. Honour yourself ahead of others. Attend to your needs before going that far to attend to others' needs. Doing good is not a sin but doing good to yourself before doing it to others.

While Jesus was teaching, he summarized the law into two when He said,
"37. Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38. This is the first and great commandment. Matthew 22:37-38, then he introduced the second law which says,
"39. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."

The summary of the law is this,
1. Love the Lord your God
2. Love yourself
3. Love your neighbour in the same measure you love yourself.
After loving God you should love yourself then show the same love to others, not loving others first before loving yourself, in other words, honour yourself above all. Give yourself what will sustain you before doing the same to others. Care for yourself, feed yourself well, dress yourself well, take care of your health before doing the same to others. Aside from being instructed by the spirit to carry out some instruction like the widow of Zarephath and the rest which wasn't continuous, honour yourself daily, it's a law that we need to keep. When you honour yourself then you can do the same to all men. It is my prayer today that we will be disciplined to put ourselves first and do the same to others in Jesus' mighty name, Amen.

God Bless you and Good Morning.
