TOPIC: HANDLING DOUBT: Gideon (3)

BIBLE READING:
Judges 6:12-16.
"12. And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.
13. And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.
14. And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?
15. And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house.
16. And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.
Thinking Point:
Test every voice before doubting the credibility behind it.
It's another glorious day with the Mighty hand of the Lord resting on us. I see God visiting that situation troubling our hearts this morning in Jesus' name Amen.
God will never instruct you to do something easy or simple and if He does, He wants to bring out something marvelous from nothing. Reasons for doubt is as a result of, 'How Can It Be?' 'How will it come to pass?' Since our God is unpredictable, all His instructions are unpredictable too. Imagine a young man hiding food stuffs from the midianites and an angel appeared from nowhere with such a salutations,
"The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour."
Someone who is hiding with fear. His expression can't be explained. Gideon went ahead to respond with good courtesy, saying,
"And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us?
Did you notice his words? “If the Lord be with US not if the Lord be with ME”. The angel addressed him personally but he generalised it thinking God was speaking to the Israelites at that moment while God was speaking to him directly.
Most times we generalise a personal message of God and missed the instructions totally. When God is speaking we sometimes see it as sending us to deliver instructions to others while He is directing the message to us. Doubt makes us see our in ability while faith reveals our capability in the light of God's.
Gideon began to doubt all the words of the angel and he put him to test. Sometimes we might need to test the spirit in order to know who is speaking to us. Another thing to check out for is if the instruction is positive or negative, with these we can ascertain who is speaking. Until Gideon tested the angel and he was sure then he stopped doubting. Beloved, before doubting every voice know the spirit behind it. Don't jump into conclusion and doubt the spirit behind the voice because God wouldn't lie. Gideon also enjoyed the privilege that he was not that familiar to God before this experience so mercy spoke on his behalf. God expected us to trust Him as much as we have been walking with Him. Doubting Him can trigger punishment as we shall see during this teachings. Test every instructions before doubting the credibility.
