TOPIC: JEPHTHAH: Acknowledge God Always (7)
One Year Bible Reading:
1st Samuel 3 - 7
Luke 17: 1 - 19
MEMORY VERSE:
Micah 7:8.
"8. Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me."
BIBLE READING:
Judges 11:29-31.
"29. Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon.
30. And Jephthah vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of Ammon into mine hands,
31. Then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD'S, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering."
Thinking Point:
No matter your circumstances, always hold unto God not men.
Daddy, we Thank you for your faithfulness for this past week. You have shown us how much you loved us and brought us this far, we return all Glory to you alone in Jesus name, Amen.
This morning I will be sharing my last lesson on Jephthah. We have seen how he rose from being sent packing to being sent for to be their leader. We saw how he negotiated his leadership before accepting to fight on their behalf. He knew what he was fighting for because his leadership role was settled. One thing that proved his reign in that situation was the fact that Jephthah never turned away from God, when the world turned against, He still held unto God. He never turned away. When the battle was about to start he turned to God and made a vow, "AND JEPHTHAH VOWED A VOW UNTO THE LORD.” Who calls on God who doesn't know him? This has been the secret of Jephthah during his challenging period. I wondered how Jephthah would accept to leave the house, the scripture said "then Jephthah fled from his brethren" meaning he moved faster according to the guidance of God. I would have fought it out, "This is my father's house, I'm going nowhere." "My father's inheritance is mine too, I must take my portion." But with God on his side, he knew what to do, "He fled" to become because he knew who could make him become. Hallelujah.
Too often, we lose focus on God when tribulations come knocking, when things become difficult, when men turn against us, we are not to put God away from us. We are to look up to God when we are down. The Psalmist says,
"5. They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed." Psalms 34:5.
We are to look up to God always, not only in the times of challenges. You don't call on someone who doesn't know you before and expect such to respond like he knows you instantly, No, you have to develop a relationship before you enjoy the relationship. Jephthah knew God and was able to commit the battle to him before going. Do you know God? Did God recognise your voice? Can you call on Him and He will respond instantly? You must have developed a relationship with Him before the days of trouble. Stop playing with God and start depending on Him. Run to God not men.
God Bless you and Good Morning.
