TOPIC: ATTRIBUTE TO DEVELOP: Self - Control (3)

One Year Bible Reading:
1 Kings 9
John 6: 1 - 24

MEMORY VERSE:
James 4:10.
"6. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up."

BIBLE READING:
Genesis 39:7-9.
"7. And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.
8. But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;
9. There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?"

Thinking Point:
Self control is a virtue to cultivate and work towards not a gift of the Spirit.

The Lord's presence go with us today, led us to the rightful place and direct us out of evil in Jesus mighty name, Amen

Our focus has been, "Attitudes To Develop as Believers" and we have discussed Humility to God and Humility to man. The next attitude to work in despite the spirit of God in us is Self Control. What Is Self Control? Self control is restraining one's self from doing certain things regardless of the pressure. It is an act to keep to one's word under any condition. Self control puts one in a situation where you don't do what others do or act the way they act. Lack of self control is the reason for greediness. Where self control is lacking greediness, gluttony and lust and loss of focus will be the happening of the day. No matter how spirit filled we are, if we lack self control we can't please the Lord. If we can't put ourselves in check, we can't enjoy the best that God has for us.

Let's see Joseph, the son of Jacob, who was far from home. He lives in Egypt as a slave. He was honoured to be in charge of his master's household but he put himself under control. Nothing missed when he was in charge. He never lust for what doesn't belong to him. His master's wife who lacked self control started disturbing Joseph to lay with her but Joseph, we never read that He was spirit filled or anointed but he put himself under control, even under free will request. He said,
"how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?"

The origin of self control is the Fear of God. When the fear of God is not in check self control can't be possible. Joseph was not anointed like Samson but he resisted a woman older than him, wealthier than him and highly placed, but Samson was anointed from the womb but still failed to put himself under control. Many Christians today have little regard for self control on what to eat, where to eat and when to eat. Where to go and how to respond to opposite sex requests. Self control is personal discipline. You may be filled with the Holy Spirit and still be controlled by the flesh without self control. It's our duty to develop self control, to put ourselves on check daily. Without this attitude developed our race may be a waste of time. I pray this morning that the spirit of Self Control will dominate our lives in Jesus' name, Amen.

God Bless you and Good Morning.
