_”But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”_ KJV

_”Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”_
Thinking Point:
The first character of the Fruit of the Spirit is LOVE. God is Love.
“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. Amen.”
This week, I would like us to dig deeper into the Fruit of the Spirit — better put, the character of the Holy Spirit in a believer.
First of all, when you check the scripture it is not stated as the “Fruits of the Spirit” but “Fruit of the Spirit” because there are not many fruits, but one fruit with many expressions. It is the character of the carrier of the Holy Spirit.
It’s like having an apple, and in it you have many nutritional values. That is what the fruit of the Holy Spirit is. What the Holy Spirit produces in us is the Fruit of the Holy Spirit, and the first character is LOVE. Bear in mind that every character of the Holy Spirit is the character of God. They are a direct reflection of God.
_“But the fruit of the Spirit is LOVE...”_ Galatians 5:22 KJV
Love is the first character because it is the foundation of all other characters. Without love, every other character has no root.
The Holy Spirit teaches us to love God first, and to love people even when they don’t deserve it. Love covers, love forgives, love gives. God Himself is Love according to John the beloved: _“God is love.”_ 1 John 4:7-8 KJV
What the Holy Spirit does in us is to build love in our character towards God first, then towards the people we see. When you love God you become like Him by showing love to others, as Jesus showed us love by dying for us.
Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 13 that love supersedes the gifts of the Spirit. The first verse says:
_“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.”_ 1 Cor 13:1 KJV
It is the Holy Spirit, through love, that gives the grace to forgive others. It was love that made Jesus pray on the cross saying:
_“Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.”_ Luke 23:34 KJV
When the Anointing is upon you, compassion will rise. You will not see pain and walk away. Love will propel you to do something. The Holy Spirit builds love in us when He comes upon us.
Prayer:
Father, let the love of the Holy Spirit be shed abroad in our hearts today in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
