TOPIC: LEVELS OF SPIRITUAL GROWTH (2): SITTING LEVEL - WORD Studying

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Thinking Point:
A thirst for personal study time is a sign of the Sitting Level.
This week, we go in the strength of God to win battles, overcome opposition, and receive insight to please God in all our endeavors, in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
This week we started with Level 1: The Birth Level - The Milk Level. This is where a new believer is taught how to live the life of Christ through the basic teachings of God’s Word.
Today, we are focusing on the second level which is - Sitting Level - Personal Study of God’s Word
This goes beyond what you are taught in church. This is the level where you search for God intentionally through His Word.
When a child is born, breast milk and soft food give them stamina. After this, the parent begins to sit the child until they become stable and can begin to feed themselves.
Spiritually, at the Sitting Level: You develop an appetite for the Word beyond congregational fellowship. You begin personal devotion, Bible study, and note-taking. You begin to hear God speak to you from the pages of scripture, receiving revelation and interpretation of the Word.
It is the level of Knowledge and Understanding. You can’t walk without knowing the Word. You move from someone feeding you to sitting with the Word and feeding yourself.
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” — 2 Timothy 2:15
At this stage you are eager to know more of God and to seek His approval. No one can do this for you except you. You create your quiet time for devotion and study. Your prayer life is also ignited because the Word becomes effective in you.
_“That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ”_ — Ephesians 4:14-15
At this level you begin to know doctrines, promises, and God’s character — and you start to walk toward them.
Like a child who begins to sit and feed himself, so is the believer at this stage: feeding himself from God’s Word in order to gain stamina.
Are you still waiting to be fed, or have you learned to sit with the Word and feed yourself? Growth demands personal responsibility.
May the Lord give us grace to sit at His feet and grow, in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
