Thinking Point:
Long Term Provision Are The Faithful And Trusted Vision Carriers For A Longer Period
The presence of the Lord will lead us into His Will and Purpose for our lives. We shall be willing and obedient to His voice today, in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
Yesterday we studied the first type of provision for vision: Short Term Provision — which lasts just for a moment. Most times we think we have them permanently and we want more of such provision, but they soon exit.
Today we focus on Long Term Provision, they are vision carriers for a long period. They are great supporters. These provisions are always available for a long time, so most times, we take them for granted. We develop over-familiarity with them and they seem not to be seen as provision but as a right — and that is the mistake.
Also, these provisions can become so engrossed with the vision that the visionary begins to belittle them. They may have been there during the short term provision and still remain after those ones depart because they believe more and have the heart for service.
Long term provision helps your ministry and vision. Without them, quitting would have been the option. They serve faithfully and wholeheartedly. They bring ideas, innovations, and their energy so much that others begin to ask if they are the vision carrier.
Elisha experienced long term provision through the woman of Shunem.
She provided for Elisha even before he requested. She built him a room. 2 Kings 4:8-10
To the extent that Elisha asked, “What then is to be done for you?” and ended up prophesying that she would have a child, and it was so. 2 Kings 4:14, 16
When Elijah finished with the short term provision at the brook, God led him to the long term provision — a widow with a son.
“...I have commanded a widow there to feed you.” — 1 Kings 17:9
God gave Elijah long term provision till the rain returned to the land. — 1 Kings 17:15-16
Moses had Hur as a short term provision but Aaron and elders were long term provisions throughout the lifetime of Moses and they served him faithfully.
Long term provision also has an expiry date: It’s good to know that long term provision can also expire when their assignment is done. To maintain these provisions, treat them respectively. Motivate them. Appreciate their efforts. They understand what you want, how you like things, and they draw more followers to your vision, because when these provisions are taken for granted, they can begin to lose interest in the visionary because of weaknesses that are not addressed.
Whichever provision that is available at every point in time, know and see them as God’s provision and not our effort. Stop being angry with the short term provision which has elapsed. Focus on the present provision and thank God for them always. “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18
