Thinking Point:
The fear of the Lord doesn't push us away from God; it keeps us from straying away.
As we enter the weekend today, we will neither be weak nor weary, we grow in the strength of God to accomplish every ongoing project in Jesus Name, Amen.
Today we come to the fifth name called; The Fear Of The Lord. It is not terror, not torment, not the fear that makes you run from God. This is Yir'ah in Hebrew — holy reverence, deep awe, worshipful Awareness Of God's Presence.
Many think "fear" means God wants us to be afraid of Him. No. He wants us to be aware of Him. The fear of the Lord is living with the consciousness that God sees me, hears me, loves me, and will judge righteously.
And David gives us two revelations about this Word:
1. It is CLEAN: The word "clean" in Hebrew is tahor — pure, uncontaminated, purifying. The fear of the Lord washes. It purifies. When you live with the awareness that God is watching, sin loses its sweetness.
You can have soap and still be dirty if you don't use it. The fear of the Lord is spiritual soap. It scrubs motives. Psalm 19:12 says, "Cleanse thou me from secret faults." Who does that? The fear of the Lord.
Why did Joseph refuse Potiphar's wife in Egypt? No pastor was there. No CCTV. But he said, "How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?" Genesis 39:9. That is the fear of the Lord. It kept him clean in a dirty environment.
Proverbs 8:13 says, "The fear of the LORD is to hate evil." You cannot love God and love evil at the same time. The fear of the Lord makes you hate gossip, hate pride, hate sexual immorality, not because someone is watching, but because you love God.
2. It ENDURES FOR EVER: Trends come and go. Culture shifts. Fashion changes. Preaching styles change. But the fear of the Lord never goes out of style. It is eternal because God is eternal.
Laws can be amended. Constitutions can be changed. But the fear of the Lord endures forever.
Malachi 3:6, "For I am the LORD, I change not."
What God hated 4,000 years ago, He still hates. What pleased Him yesterday will still please Him tomorrow. This is what gives stability to a believer.
Proverbs 14:27 says, "The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death." It is a fountain — always flowing, always fresh, always keeping you alive.
"By the fear of the LORD men depart from evil" Proverbs 16:6
The secret to a clean life is not willpower; it is God-awareness. Before every decision, every conversation, every click, every business deal, ask one question: "Lord, would You be pleased with this?"
That one question is the fear of the Lord in action. It will keep you clean. It will keep you from traps. It will make you endure.
Don't live for the applause of men. Live for the approval of God.
Prayer:
Father, clothe me with the fear of the Lord. Purify my motives, cleanse me from secret faults, and keep me from presumptuous sins. Let my life be driven not by fear of man, but by reverence for You in Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen.
God bless you and Good Morning.
