Oluboye Emmanuel Ministry© Mobile Daily Devotional Week 39, Day 4, Wednesday, 23rd September 2026 TOPIC: THE WORD OF GOD: (4) The Statutes Of The Lord

TOPIC: THE WORD OF GOD: (4) The Statutes Of The Lord

One Year Bible Reading:
Isaiah 11 - 12
Ephesians 1: 1 - 14

MEMORY VERSE:
John 1:1.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

BIBLE READING:
Psalm 19:8 KJV
"THE STATUTES OF THE LORD ARE RIGHT, REJOICING THE HEART: …."

Thinking Point:
Rules don't steal joy; right living produces joy that circumstances cannot touch.

It's another new day that the Lord has made, nothing shall tamper with our joy, nothing connected to sorrow shall be ours today, in Jesus mighty name, Amen.

Our focus remains, The Word Of God in different names. We have seen the Law that converts, the Testimony that makes wise. Today we meet the third name — THE STATUTES.

The third name for the Word of God is Statutes. The Hebrew word is Piqqudim, which means precepts, appointed things, things laid down by authority, detailed guidelines.

Statutes are God's specific guidelines for living. They are not suggestions, not advice, not opinion polls. They are God's "house rules" for how life works best. Every house has rules. Every kingdom has statutes. God, as the King of all the earth, has given us statutes for our good, according to Deuteronomy 6:24, which says,
“And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, To Fear The Lord Our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.

And David says two powerful things about them: they are right, and they rejoice the heart.

1. They are RIGHT: That means they are straight, morally correct, accurate, just. They are not crooked. In a crooked world where right is called wrong and wrong is called right, Isaiah 5:20, God's statutes remain straight. You can measure your life by them and know you are standing upright.

2. They REJOICE the heart: This is a mystery to the world. The world tells us that rules steal joy, that freedom is doing whatever you want. But God says the opposite. Right living produces a rejoicing heart. Sin may give you momentary pleasure, Hebrews 11:25, but statutes give you lasting joy.

When you walk in God's appointed ways — in integrity, in forgiveness, in generosity, in purity, in love, fear of God — there is a deep joy that circumstances cannot touch. Psalm 16:11.

Statutes are like traffic laws. They may feel restrictive — "Why must I stop at red? Why the speed limit?" — but they are actually what keep you safe and free. Without traffic laws, there will be chaos and death. God's statutes protect us from pain and lead us into blessing.

Many are sad today not because the devil attacked them, but because they broke a statute, God's laid down rules. The prodigal son broke the statute of honour and fellowship and ended in the pig's pen, Luke 15. When he returned to the father's house rules, joy returned — music and dancing, Luke 15:25.

Obedience is not bondage, but a pathway to joy, John 15:10-11. Joy is not found in breaking God's statutes but in keeping them.

Check one area where you have been compromising — in your business dealings, your speech, your relationships, your purity, forgiveness? Obedience today will bring rejoicing tomorrow. Choose one statute this week and obey it fully — you will see your heart bubbling with joy that no man can explain.

Prayer:
Father, teach me to love Your statutes. Forgive me for seeing Your Word as a restriction. Today, I receive Your statutes as right and perfect. As I walk in Your statute, fill my heart with joy that no man can take away. Let my obedience bring rejoicing in Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen.

God bless you and Good Morning.
