TOPIC: WEARINESS (2): Cause Of Weariness: Distraction
One Year Bible Reading:
Isaiah 40 - 41
Philippians 3: 12 - 4: 1 - 3
MEMORY VERSE:
Isaiah 40:31
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
BIBLE READING:
Hebrews 12:2
“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith." Weariness begins when your eyes leave Jesus and begin to look at storms, people, and problems.
Thinking Point:
Nothing causes weariness like leaving your assignment to work at another person's duty post.
This week, what we lacked strength to do before now, we receive strength to start doing. We receive helping hands and resources needed for uncompletion in Jesus' Wonderful Name, Amen.
Welcome to the continuation of our teaching on Weariness. We saw what weariness was yesterday and we promised to study the causes of weariness from today. The first cause of weariness is Distraction. Distraction is what takes your mind away from what you are ordained to do — your purpose, your assignment to the world. Distraction presents what is not meaningful to change your focus from the real assignment.
Many are weary not because the journey is long, but because they are carrying weights they should have laid aside and looking at things they should have ignored. Distraction drains focus and focus is fuel for destiny. Distraction can simply be explained this way: a soldier who is at the battlefront being distracted by a woman passing by.
Hebrews 12:2 says,
"Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith."
Weariness begins when your eyes leave Jesus, your called assignment, and begin to look at storms, people, and problems.
Psalm 34:5 says, "They looked unto Him and were lightened."
Those who look to Jesus are lightened; those who look away are burdened. Peter walked on water while his eyes were on Jesus. He began to sink when he looked at the wind. What you look at determines whether you will stand or sink — Matthew 14:26-32.
When Jesus noticed the intention of men to make Him king, He withdrew, seeing it as a distraction. John 6:14-15,
"Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.
When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone."
When you are distracted from your assignment, weariness steps in because you don't know what to do in an area you are not called into. Many marriages become weary when external parties are allowed to distract them. Business becomes weary when owners are distracted from their business. Ministers of the Gospel become weary when they leave what God assigned them and jump into what they are not called into. The devil cannot always stop you, so he distracts you.
What distractions are draining your strength today? Do you remember your assignment? Are you focused on it? The easiest way to overcome distraction is to turn back to what you are called to do. God will never guide you into what He never called you to do. He can only guide you on your assignment, not someone else's assignment.
Turn from that distraction and focus on what God as assigned you then, weariness will find it way.
Prayer:
Father, today I lay aside every weight and distraction. I fix my eyes on Jesus. I receive lightness and strength in Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen.
God bless you and Good Morning.
