TOPIC: WEARINESS (12): Cause Of Weariness: Overlabour And Lack Of Rest

One Year Bible Reading:
Isaiah 61 - 63
1 Thess. 5: 1 - 28

MEMORY VERSE:
Isaiah 40:31
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

BIBLE READING:
Mark 6:31.
"And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat."

Thinking Point:
Lack of rest and relaxation is not godly, it is overlabouring of God's temple.

This morning, every trace of weariness traceable to overlabour is attended to in Jesus' Name. May you receive grace for balanced labour and refreshing rest in Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen.

Weariness unattended to early enough can lead to spiritual backsliding and even death. When weariness is only treated spiritually without checking the physical aspect, it is also dangerous. Which brings us to another source of weariness, which is Overlabour and Lack of Rest.

In creation, God made everything perfect. He created and laid down processes of how things should be done. Despite being the Creator, He took out a day to rest after creation. God Himself worked six days and rested on the seventh day — Genesis 2:2. If God rested, who are you not to rest?

Even Jesus called His disciples to rest in Mark 6:31,
"And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat."

When Jesus also saw that weariness could set in during His ministry work, He entered into a ship and rested so deeply that the disciples had to wake Him up.

Mark 4:35-39
"And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm."

When the body is denied rest, it will become weary and won't be useful to its owner. Many believers are weary not because of demons, but because they don't rest. They work, work, work without sleep, without vacation, without retreat. They want to do everything themselves. In the end, they break down.

Overlabour is not spirituality; it is foolishness. You cannot burn the candle at both ends and not get burnt. Rest is spiritual. Sleep is spiritual. Taking a break to refresh your body, soul, and spirit is not laziness; it is wisdom.

Do not let your phone steal your sleep. Do not let ambition steal your rest. Learn to shut down, to retreat, to be refreshed. God can do more with your rested body than with your exhausted labour.

Prayer:
Father, deliver me from overlabour. Teach me to work wisely and to rest well. Today, I receive divine rest for my body, soul, and spirit in Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen.

Good morning and God bless you.
