Oluboye Emmanuel Ministry© Mobile Daily Devotional Week 41, Day 4, Wednesday, 7th October 2026 TOPIC: WEARINESS (4): Cause Of Weariness: Comparison

TOPIC: WEARINESS (4): Cause Of Weariness: Comparison

One Year Bible Reading:
Isaiah 44 - 45
Colossians 1: 1 - 23

MEMORY VERSE:
Isaiah 40:31
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

BIBLE READING:
2 Corinthians 10:12-13
“For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.”

Thinking Point:
Comparison makes your effort seem worthless while making others' work appear superior.

I pray for everyone going through this devotional, may your eyes be opened to the value of your own labour. May the spirit to appreciate your effort more than others' rest upon you in Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen.

Weariness is like a snake that crawls into one's house without one's knowledge. It is an instrument used to truncate purpose fulfillment. We have seen two sources of weariness so far — Distraction and Delay. These two have hindered many from fulfilling their assignment. Today, we are discussing Comparison; you can call it competing or measuring yourself by others' achievements.

The fact that your calling, assignment, or purpose looks like someone else's assignment does not mean you have the same assignment. We are all called into different fields. For a Quantity Surveyor to compare his achievement with an Architect is out of place. For medical personnel to compare their success with an Electrical Engineer is worrisome. Likewise, your field of assignment is different from mine, even in Christianity. When we compare our success with others, we end up draining the strength we have left for our assignment.

Comparison is a thief of joy and a factory of weariness. When you are doing better than the person you are comparing yourself with, it can lead to pride, the mentality of an achiever, which can in turn lead to weariness, slackness, and laziness. When others are doing better than you, it kills your spirit and makes it seem you are not succeeding. Comparison attracts weariness without anyone speaking to you. When you keep comparing, you will be compelled to slow down.

2 Corinthians 10:12 says those who compare themselves among themselves are not wise. When you compare your journey with another man's journey, you become weary; you lose focus on the next step. When others become your yardstick, you become stranded of ideas.

Your race is different, your timing is different, your grace is different. Comparison makes you run another man's race at your own expense.

Social media has increased comparison and therefore increased weariness. Celebrate others, but run your own race. See others' achievements, but focus on your race. You will be rewarded for what you do, not what others are doing. Your walking time is someone else's running time. So compare yourself with yourself. Compare your past successes to your present success to move forward, to motivate yourself and encourage yourself. Our path should be shining brighter and brighter, not brighter and dimmer.

God did not call you to be like them; He called you to be faithful.

Prayer:
Lord, deliver me from the trap of comparison. I receive grace to run my own race with joy and strength in Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen.

God bless you and Good Morning.
