TOPIC: LESSONS FROM HANNAH'S LIFE: Be Specific About Your Vow (7)
One Year Bible Reading:
Joshua 3 - 24 Luke 7
8: 1 - 50
MEMORY VERSE:
Heb. 13:8
"8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."
BIBLE READING:
1 Sam. 1:10 -11
10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD and wept in anguish. 11 Then she made a vow and said, “O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.”
Thinking Point:
Vows to God and humans should be specific and accurate for God to be attracted.
Yesterday, we saw how Hannah did something that was different from other Shiloh programs she's been attending. She made a vow with God and things turned around for her. We will take some days to study about the do's and the don't of vow. Today, our focus will be; "Being Specific about your vows".
Hannah went to God with a direct and well detailed request. She was specific about what she wanted. She told God, (i) I want a male child, (ii) if you give me, i will give him back to you and (iii) no razor will touch his head.
Very precise and direct. God is ready to bring to pass our request but He's also interested in the specification of your request. Do you need a male or female child? 3 bedroom flat or 1 bedroom flat, what will be God’s benefit when this request is granted? How will it honour me as God? What do you really need this for? And many more questions that we need to be specific about. This specification was what affected Jephthah when making his vow. He wasn't specific enough about his vow, either a human or an animal that came out of his door, but lo and behold, it was his one and only daughter, Judges 11:34-37. When Herod was making a vow to her daughter who danced to please him, he was not specific also about what the child's request should be, and John the Baptist’s head went for it. Matthew 14:6-10.
Specification handles a lot about vow. Have you been making your vows right? What exactly do you present to God and how did you present it? How specific are you with the vows? Think on this for today, tomorrow we will continue on the topic vow.
Good morning, and God bless you.
