Mobile Daily Devotional with Oluboye Emmanuel Week 14, Day 1, Sunday, 30th March, 2025 TOPIC: LESSONS FROM HANNAH'S LIFE: Be Personal About Your Vow. (8)

TOPIC: LESSONS FROM HANNAH'S LIFE: Be Personal About Your Vow. (8)

One Year Bible Reading:
Joshua 5 - 6, Luke 8: 1 - 39

MEMORY VERSE:
Heb. 13:8
"8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."

BIBLE READING:
1 Sam. 1:10 -11
10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD and wept in anguish. 11 Then she made a vow and said, “O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.”

Thinking Point:
When making a vow, don't attach others to the fulfillment.

We discussed "Being Specific About Your Vow" yesterday. Today, let us move ahead. Be personal about fulfillment of your vow. It is very wrong to commit others in your vows. Hannah was lucky that her son, Samuel, was able to accept her mother's costly vow. Jephthah was also lucky he had a child who could understand with him. What if those children rejected their parent's vow? What if they replied to their parents with, "you made the vow, pay it yourself, I can't be punished for your mistake".

Don't commit others to paying your vows. Make a vow you will remit without involving others. Thank God for Elkanah who understood the plight of Hannah, the scripture said in Num. 30:6-8, that, if a man voids his wife's vow, it is cancelled, the vow shall not stand. Before making your vow inform whoever needs to be involved because all vows must be paid.

Make vows you can remit conveniently. God is not after the size but the genuineness and faithfulness of the vow. Make a vow you alone can remit without involving another party and don't commit yourself to vows you can't afford.

Hear what King Solomon said in Ecclesiastical 5:4,
"4. When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed."

After Hannah fulfilled her vow more children came through her. There's reward in fulfilling your vow. See you tomorrow, still on vow.

Good morning, and God bless you.
