TOPIC: TYPES OF MENTALITY: Pride Mentality-Part 2 (10)

2 Samuel 4 - 6, Luke 23: 4 - 49.

MEMORY VERSE:
Philippians 4:8.
"8. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

BIBLE READING:
Proverbs 29:23
"23. A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit."

Thinking Point:
Being too big to apologise is a sign of pride.

Yesterday, I discussed Pride mentality and I am led to still speak on the same topic today. Pride is more complex than we think. When you are too big to say the word "sorry" or apologise to in a hot quarrel it's a sign of pride. Yes, sometimes you may not be at fault, you may be blamed for doing what's right but bringing oneself down to say, "Sorry" is a sign of humility. In marriages, we call it 'ego in men', to stoop low and use the word 'sorry' seems too hard and likewise women are not left out. There are times the word 'sorry' would have settled what led to destruction but pride took the best of both sides involved. Saying sorry in a sign of humility not foolishness most times.

Another side of pride is looking down on others because of position, wealth, talent, title, beauty and whatever. It's time to know that God promotes and also demotes at will. People you look down on today may be the only help you will need tomorrow. No stage is permanent in life. No one is too low to be lifted, so therefore, everyone has the tendency to be greater tomorrow, looking down on others can be to one's detriment in time to come. The parable of Jesus in Luke 16: 20 -25, about the rich man and Lazarus was a good example of pride. Even in hell, the rich man still showcases his pride by requesting to send Lazarus to his family down on earth. Pride makes God look a man afar off why humility brings us closer to God, James 4:6.

The mentality that I am too blessed or wealthy to relate with others of low class will also make God avoide us. It's better to fight your pride before it damages you sooner. Pride takes one down while humility lifts one up.
