TOPIC: LESSONS FROM SAUL AND DAVID: Tame Your Thoughts (27)
One Year Bible Reading:
I Chronicles 3 - 4, John 15: 1 - 17.
MEMORY VERSE:
Matthew 11:12.
"12. And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force."
BIBLE READING:
1 Samuel 18:8-9.
"8. And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom? 9. And Saul eyed David from that day and forward."
Thinking Point:
The best way to live our life is to have control over the thoughts in your heart.
One of the least important things to do as believers is to control the thoughts that come into our heart. Because we are believers, that won't stop others from speaking and relating like an unbeliever. That we are Christians doesn't mean everyone around us should not smoke or womanize, no, we will be the one to leave their presence or preach to them, not the other way round. Everyone has free will to do and say what they feel but it's not ours to follow their ways or principles as believers. That we are being called names doesn't mean we should turn back from following Jesus, No, but we remaining in our faith despite their intentional attitude to us is what can and will save them from destruction. Many times Jesus was insulted, called names and always was about to be stoned but He remained constant with his messages.
King Saul was carried away by the word of the women celebrating the victory of David over the Philistines. They began to say, "David has killed his ten thousand while Saul killed his thousand" and King Saul was disturbed hearing this song. Because he couldn't control his thought it degenerated to finding means of killing David without him altering a word against the King. If you won't control your thoughts you will keep having enemies without reasons. If you will recall, we discussed a message about "Thought of Evil and Evil Thought" some few weeks ago, you may want to visit the teaching, (1). We need to have total control on what goes on and what comes into our thinking tank. Saul failed in doing this and it enhances his downfall. Decide on what to think on. Philippian 4:8, says,
"8. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
These lists should guide our heart and our thoughts. We need to know how to clear negative and wrong thoughts off our minds. David had the privilege to kill King Saul later on but his thought helped him not to act as advised. Don't let people determine or dictate what you should think on, you have the will power to decide and decide right. Think good thoughts not evil thoughts.
