BIBLE READING:
Luke 10:31.
"31. And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side."
Thinking Point:
Being a neighbour's Priest is far better than a titled priest.
The Spirit of the Lord will lead our way and bring us into fulfillment of God's purpose for our lives today in Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
A Neighbour as we have been told is anyone in need who can be a stranger or friends. A Neighbour might be in seconds, days, weeks, months or years, there is no specific time that defines the relationship between a neighbour. According to the parable of Jesus our Lord, when a stranger who happens to be a Jew was robbed, Jesus said a certain Priest came across him but passed by him and went on his way. Who does a priest signify? it signifies Spiritual or political leaders, wealthy people, those who have authority at their disposal. Those who can undo evil in a second, such are who Christ was referring to. The priest saw the wounded man and looked away as many will do today because the person is a low class, he's not their financial nor a known person that people will hear the report when he helped him. That was a titled priest, not a neighbour's priest. The priest saw him as a nobody to attend to, like saying "The Levites should be attending to such a case, I can't make myself unclean, I am going on an assignment". The highly placed will always have an excuse to exempt themselves from attending to neighbours.
Everyday on our screens we see people soliciting funds for health issues, soliciting for help, for jobs, one thing or the other but our "Priest" - leaders, both spiritual and political, wealthy and flashy leaders take off their eyes and pass away as titled priests. They look away because they are not family members, relatives or associates or paraventure they will get nothing in return.
James said,
"15. If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16. And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? - James 2:15-16.
James said that brother or that sister, that unknown person you discovered that needs help, give them help not prayer. Stretch out your hands to assist them, not just words. If the priest had gone to check on the robbed man his influence would have helped the man without a coin from the priest's purse because people would have honoured him by assisting in carrying the robbed man to the hospital. He would have made some calls for assistance. You have all it takes to attend to that neighbour. What will it profit you if he or she dies when you can solve the problem?
You have that power to help that neighbour, remember a neighbour is someone in need, not literally someone you know, but someone that is in need of what you have, who needs your attention. Don't be another priest that looks away, don't be another titled priest, be the priest that listens, sees and attends to your neighbour's needs and cries, be your neighbour's priest. Putting smiles on crying neighbour brings more joy than putting smiles on smiling friends. Let that neighbour mention your name to God as the priest that turns around to help. Be your neighbour's priest not a tilted priest.
God Bless you and Good Morning.
