TOPIC: Faith On The Road: The Humility (1)

One Year Bible Reading:
2 Chronicles 31 - 32
Acts 7: 54 - 8:1 - 8

MEMORY VERSE:
Hebrews 11:1.
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

BIBLE READING:
Luke 8:41-42 (KJV)
“And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come into his house:”
“For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him.”

Thinking Point:
Humility Enhances The Substance of Faith

This morning I pray that our walk with God will not end in shame, pain, bitterness, or fruitlessness in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen. We will reap the harvest of our service and commitment to God in Jesus’ mighty Name, Amen.

I’d like to remind us that this month has been declared our month of “Walking In Faith,” so our series has been centered on faith. Today we’re starting a new teaching I’ve titled, “Faith On The Road.” This teaching focuses on those who, through faith, encountered Jesus on the road. There are lessons to take home from these encounters. Most times, faith is not an organized or neatly arranged principle. It can be applied differently according to each individual’s understanding.

Today we start with a man called Jairus: The Humble Man of Faith. Jairus was a leader in the synagogue who had many subordinates he could send on errands. But the way he applied his faith is our focus. He shows us that he was a humble man. He rose up himself and went to Jesus to ask for help. When he came to Jesus, the Scripture says, “he fell down at Jesus’ feet, and besought Him that He would come into his house to heal his daughter” Luke 8:41.

Now, Jesus was about 33 years old then—much younger than this ruler with a 12-year-old daughter. Secondly, the rulers in the synagogue were not on good terms with Jesus and His teachings. A ruler would have sent a servant to call Jesus to his house while looking down on Him. But Jairus stooped low, went himself, bowed before Jesus, and besought— begged — Him to come and heal his daughter.

Beloved, faith without humility will stop God’s response to our faith. When we mix our faith with pride, there will be no result. The ruler relinquished his position and became humble to access Jesus, and that humility gave him room to press Him to follow him home.

We need to separate pride from faith. When God sees pride in us, He sees us from afar, but with a humble heart, He pays attention to us.
James 4:6 says,

“But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: ‘God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.’”

You may have faith as small as a mustard seed or as big as a mountain. When humility is lacking, the substance of faith will never become reality. As we walk in faith, let us check ourselves to see if pride is not found in us, because faith and pride cannot walk together. It was humility that moved Jesus to follow Jairus. It wasn’t just the invitation. He believed Jesus could heal his daughter, but humility triggered the move of Jesus to follow him. How humble are we to exercise our faith in God?

God Bless you and Good Morning.
