“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.”
Thinking Point:
Our obedience to His Word is what seals our friendship with Jesus.
The Friend who knows us more than we know ourselves will speak on our behalf and take away our pains and struggles, in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
In our series of encouraging ourselves from the hymns, our focus for today is “No, Not One” by Johnson Oatman.
There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus.

5. Was e'er a gift like the Savior given?

Will He refuse us a home in heaven?

This hymn gives the best definition of who a true friend should be. The greatest friend any man can have is Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God, who did what no man can do for his friend. He settled our case before we were born through His sacrifice on the cross.
As we go through this hymn, we see that Jesus is lowly, humble, and a healer who knows exactly what we are going through. He is a Friend who stands by us even when we don’t feel Him. Yes, He is standing by you right now, willing to act on your behalf. I dare you to speak to Him now, and you will see Him respond to your request.
Darkness is not a barrier to Him. He does not forsake nor neglect. No sin is too great or too small to stop His friendship.
Apostle Paul puts it this way in Romans 8:37-39:
_“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”_
No sin can separate us from the love of Jesus. The only thing that can separate us is disobedience and walking away from Him — the choice is yours.
We were reminded in our hymn the other day: “All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.”
Go boldly to God this morning. Show Him love and speak to Him as a Friend who is right beside you. He is waiting for you.
